What is PrinceLite?
If you have already made an investment in Prince2™ (P2) - you would need a pretty convincing argument as to why you should consider doing something else in general, and doing PrinceLite (PL) in particular. So here it is: because you specifically deliver I.T. projects.
Where P2 is a generic method designed to help deliver any sort of project, PrinceLite is only suitable for I.T. If that is what your organisation does then you should consider PrinceLite. PrinceLite uses some of the processes, artefacts, roles and components of P2, so if you have invested in learning them that investment will not be wasted. There is a good whitepaper you can download from the Public Downloads link that describes the similarities and the differences.
PrinceLite is a project engineering method; a fusion of project management and software engineering. This site is dedicated to PrinceLite, a dialect of Prince2; an agile approach to project delivery. To discover the essence of PrinceLite click on the 'Introducing PrinceLite' link in the menu bar.
The key benefits of PrinceLite are:
- it caters for the business community and the technical/development community seamlessly.
- it offers a framework for deciding which artefacts are essential and which are merely 'nice to have'
- it accommodates programme management as a superset of project management.
- it addresses the cultural and political challenges of project delivery through a system of traceability from enterprise objectives, business goals and project deliverables
- it is straightforward; although complex (lots of simple elements) it is not complicated therefore it is understandable to a business audience. As an end-to-end approach it delivers unambiguous specifications to architects, designers, programmer and testers.
PrinceLite has both an academic and a pedigree of application in industry. Once you have convinced yourself the framework has rigour you can go to the Public Downloads link. After you have told us a bit about yourself, you can download ancillary resources. The Public Downloads space has papers that describe the rudiments of applying the method, discussions on the issues surrounding project delivery, and example artefacts that illustrate the nature of unambiguous requirements representation. Requirements representation is at the heart of the method.
